interesting little facts...

As much as I'm a creative person, I'm almost a contradiction of myself, because I'm also a statistics person. I love facts, numbers, and seeing patterns.

I can't help myself. [that of course, said with a nasty grin on my face...]

But, I just reckoned I'd give you a few of the interesting little facts happening here in the world of Misters & Misses.

The Top 3 Countries now wearing The Clooney Collection

1. USA
2. Canada
3. Germany

[however, it's a run for the money between Canada & Germany!]

The Top 5

Germany's Absolute Favourite

Who's watching us?

When you start a new venture such as the Clooney Collection, you really want to know who is watching it, and what they think of it. When you have a store, you're able to engage directly with the customers and ask them questions. What do you think of this item? What would you like to see different? Would you like panties with that t-shirt?

But when you have an online business, the only sales pitch you can do is on your web site and the only form of feedback you really get is when customers take it upon themselves to write either TO you, or ABOUT you on their own blogs. We're interested in what you have to say so please, let us know what you think!

There's also a fun way to see where folks are coming from, when they are on our web site. With a statcounter we can see that so far in the last 12 hours or so, people have visited from:

Montreal, Quebec
London, England
Calgary, Alberta
San Francisco, California
Berlin, Germany
Sherwood Park, Alberta
Vancouver, BC
Los Angeles, California
Modesto, California
Toronto, Ontario
Maryville, Illinois
Portland, Oregon
Chatham, New Jersey
Stamford, Connecticut
Cleveland, Ohio
Kansas City, Missouri
Jacksonville, Florida
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Louisville, Kentucky
Charlotte, Vermont
UK (no city given)
Stuttgart, Germany
New York, NY
Antwerp, Belgium
Frankfurt, Germany
Reston, Virginia
Atlanta, Georgia
Copenhagen, Denmark
Melbourne, Australia
Ithaca, New York
Lexington, Kentucky
Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania
Burkesville, Kentucky
American Fork, Utah
Arlington, Virginia
New Zealand
Frederick, Maryland
Sunnyvale, California
Pittsfield, Massachusetts
Plano, Texas

Wow! We're like the United Nations of t-shirts.

So a hearty hi, hello, how are ya, bonjour, g'day, Guten Tag, Lay ho, Dag!

We're so glad you're here (I am channelling Mr. Rogers right now) and we hope you like what you see.

About Us

If you've come to this wee little blog via, you might have seen a little "ABOUT" link. Just so we don't chase you away before you wanted to leave and in case you found the blog before you went shopping, we'll reproduce that info here...just promise to go shopping afterwards. We're not going to get Clooney to run for President by ourselves, people!

Angela Gwinner

I am a photographer & designer currently living in Europe. (George, I'm not too far away from Lake Como....I'm just saying...)

Originally from Canada, I eventually found my way here while travelling the world. I am now working on the master plan - to be able to call both here and there, home. As a true Sagittarius through-and-through, the jet set life suits me just fine.

I have a pup called Lenny (yes, after Lenny Kravitz of course...) and at times, I simply call him Lenny Bo Benny.

Between running my business as an accessory designer (this is where Lenny Kravitz comes in again, as he's been seen wearing some of those designs as well) and hoping to eventually get my portfolio in photography in place to follow my dream of having my photographs on book covers of lovely novels, I exhibit my photography as well. I need an agent to represent me and my photography, yes I do!

And in a sense, maybe that's what this project is all about. Sending the message out that something's got to give, and at the same time showing respect, but also keeping the playful soul within us.

I believe that we should all live boldly and confidently... very much to my favourite quote by Emile Zola... "If you asked me what I came into this world to do, I will tell you: I came to live out loud."

Tamara Nowakowsky

I am a journalist/entrepreneur currently living in Vancouver, BC.

My former debate team coach called me "a true child of the universe" and I've spent my time since then trying to live up to the title.

What that means is that I'll try pretty much anything. As a writer and television and radio reporter/host, I've had an incredible variety of adventures. I've ice climbed and ice raced, flown a glider and a United Nations AWAC jet. I've toured chocolate factories, museums and art galleries, and gotten to know some big-time celebrities. I've spent time with animals of all kinds — whales, bears, sled dogs, and race car drivers. I've done television segments on everything from the lighter side of life (handmade corsets, glow-in-the-dark-bowling) to more serious subject matter (invasion and war, fires and murders).

I've worked for U2, been a nude model, a clown at the zoo, and a 911 operator.

I've had Rheumatoid Arthritis since age 6, and know what it means to have to work hard to overcome a limitation. This is a daily exercise for me, like another full-time job. I have titanium toe joints and am slowly working on upgrading the rest of the moving parts in my body, with a double have pain relief and attain superhero status!

A la Oprah, one thing I know for sure is only boring people get bored.

So that's us.

Look around, check it out. Go and see the Clooney Collection and other goodies on our web site.

And when you go, just remember...come and visit again soon!

Late night thoughts

As more attention is directed towards us for our little venture and we sort of try to inch ourselves out of the glare of the spotlight, I find myself thinking about what it must be like to be a big-time celeb whose every move is dissected. The only real conclusion I have come to is I wouldn't want it for a minute. I've hosted television and radio shows, but they were always pretty small, and offered a manageable level of public attention. As much as I'd love to get back into TV, I'm not sure I'd answer the door if the big time came calling.

I once saw an interview with George Clooney where he talked about making the distinction between members of the media who report the news, versus those who make the news. He said (I'm paraphrasing) that he has time for those whose role it was to report on events of the world and keep citizens as informed as possible. He has no time, and considerable (and understandable) disdain for those who cause problems and events to occur that unrealistically shape the way a person looks, and take advantage of the situation to misreport what is more salacious than factual. I have always prided myself on being one of the former...but I suppose in this venture I am now one of the latter.

I have to reconcile this as I know that we both, Angela and I, have not undertaken, or taken, this little venture lightly. I mean sure, it is a matter of, "Hey, wouldn't this be funny?" but there's also a dead serious side to what we are proposing.

The thing is...we mean what we are saying.

It's not such a far-fetched idea...George Clooney for President. People are smiling and chuckling at the messages on the t-shirts but it really could happen. We think the world would be a better, and safer, place for it.

Granted, being the President of the United States is not all about charisma and eyes that wrinkle and twinkle when you smile. Many women love George Clooney because he is handsome, and because he has a deep, buttery voice. Mmm hmm. That's a given...but that's not all our pal George has to offer, either.

We actually go a step further. A handsome President of the USA would be nice but more importantly, a truly intelligent, involved and caring one is essential at this point.

Say what you will about salt and pepper hair and twinkling eyes, but this man's mind is what makes us hot. We admire his intelligence and understanding of politics and affairs both at home and globally, and his willingness to get involved and speak up about how he feels his country is doing.

Does it matter than a person has spent his life in front of the cameras, and not in law school or working his way up through municipal and state politics in the race to the Presidency? I'm not so sure about that. You can have men and women who were practically born in the Oval Office, and they're still incredibly ill-equipped to handle the awesome responsibility that comes with working in that same space.

Miss Tamara

The Map of Things...

Is it Friday already?

I really can't believe how quickly this week has already passed, and then to think that it was just Tuesday when this project launched and introduced itself.

An idea. And a mission.

Or maybe it's the admiration and respect for Mr. Clooney himself that inspired this all.

I've been having fun following a "map" of all the places that the shirts have travelled to, or will be travelling to shortly.

It's a habit that I have, even with my other company. For some reason, I find the intrigue in the thought, thinking that products I have created [or designed, concepted, brought to life?] find themselves in places far away. That is definitely what reaching out is all about. The internet lets us already reach out to a map with no boundaries, but this is the way I like seeing it...

An idea starts between two friends. Both from Canada, however the one [Miss Tamara] currently living in Vancouver, the other [Miss Angela] in Germany. And yes, we have plans to meet for tea on the Seine in Paris this summer, but I digress...

We reckoned this idea was primarily going to be a "North American" attraction, and how wrong we are. The orders are coming in from yes, the US and from Canada, but I think it says a lot about "current affairs" and Mr. George Clooney himself, that orders are coming in from Norway, Germany [but of course!], New Zealand, Holland, Australia, Ireland and England too.

And that my dears, is a pretty amazing thing!

As a designer and photographer, I'm a very visual person. So I reckon I'm going to have to make myself a map on the wall and playfully trace the travels that this project takes.

Let's find the messages everywhere... on the streets of Copenhagen or Chicago, Toronto to Torino, Los Angeles to New York and all the wonderful places in between.

Fancy putting yourself on our map too?

Tamara and I have been having great fun in the past week, and the weeks prior to us launching... and now we're hoping you have just as much fun, and especially fun while wearing your new Tee-Shirts.

Spread the word you lovely things! It does make a difference... and together we can create a voice!

Day two and counting

Day two of Clooney madness is drawing to a close. It's certainly been an interesting one.

In terms of attention from the public and media, today Too Stylish talked about what we're doing, but we're just not sure what it says.

If anyone knows what that says - translation please! also mentioned the Collection, as did the Shirt Snob (though that link isn't working for me right now) and also Democratic Underground.

Ang and I have also been watching the web hits and the orders come in, and it's so interesting to see where folks are coming from. All over the world, really...hi y'all...

Right now we're wondering how we can capitalize on this attention and traffic. We've got plenty of other ideas, so please don't forget about our lovelies in the tittenmops and fabulass collections...we'll be doing an official launch and release about those in the coming weeks but you could be one of the first to have a piece of this goodness.

Tuesday, March 21, 2006

oh hello george...

Well, it's taken me long enough to come by and say hello.

But here I am.

I'm absolutely ecstatic about the response we've received so far. Tamara and I have had so much fun [and yes, sleepless nights thanks to the the time exchange between Canada and Europe...] putting this project together.

And finally, here it is, online and happening. But better yet? Knowing that soon, very very soon the first George Clooney for President! and By George! Clooney for President and keep the george, lose the bush! shirts are going to be worn and flaunted out there.

So George, in case you do get around to reading this, here's us just letting you know... we think you could very well be the man!

Thanks so much everyone...for the great emails, response and making this little big mission of a project happen.

Here's me saying... Good Night, and Good Luck [from Germany]

Miss Angela

Media HITS it

After Lainey's nod in her newsletter last night, I just woke up to find that The Bosh mentioned the Clooney Collection as well! I'm going through our web statistics right now and the hits are for the most part half and half from either of the two.

Sweet Johneen over at GKFA has also featured our bit about our line in her Taste and Style section. She's a fellow Canadian from Halifax, Nova Scotia so we are very very pleased to have another Canuck nod.

And I just heard from the editor over at the fashion goddesses and now they're covering it as well! They're writing a piece about how our man George donated his Oscar swag with the proceeds going to charity. What a class act, that guy. I mean really, how many more diamond encrusted cell phones (or whatever ridiculously expensive gifts they were giving away) does a person need?

Speaking of charity, please check out, linked here or below. That's the charity we've decided to give 1% to from sales of the Clooney Collection. It's a charity George supports, and it's one we think does work that needs to be done.

I have other favourite charities as well, and commit funds to them whenever I can, so 1% is certainly not all we'll be giving away.

I'll report back later about other media hits - woo!

Miss Tamara

Clooney Studio has just picked up the Clooney Collection story!

They say..."Thanks to Tamara Nowakowsky for writing about her website, Selling "the Clooney collection", clothing featuring such cute slogans as "keep the George, lose the Bush" it promises to donate 1% of all sales to the ONE campaign, whilst promoting George Clooney for president.""

Thanks for that mention! My partner in crime (errr, business) is Angela but she's been quiet so far...she's going to comment or post soon, I just know it. Ah...Ang?

Just got an e-mail from a writer with Splash News - sent her images and phoned her. She's going to write a feature! She said that their stories are picked up by agencies and publications around the world. Wow. I am liking this. When we were speaking she said that she read about the line on Us Weekly. So of course I toddled over there, and it seems they're making fun of me and the line! Sort of, anyway...

They do paint me out to be a rabid Clooney fan. Well, I'm a Clooney fan all right but not so much on the rabid side. Ya gotta make media releases that catch attention though, and ours did. Besides, I stand by every word I said. And the fact that I have a sweet boyfriend too, so I'm not on the Clooney hunt...

Check out the US Weekly piece!

By the way, their angle is that Clooney is being set up for a fall from grace. Agree or disagree? You can comment on their blog - please do!

And they're off...

Lainey wore our "By George! Clooney for President" tee on her hit on E-Talk Daily tonight! You can see it here under gossip.

Waiting for the first glimpse of a product that you've put work into is perhaps a little like waiting for a baby. The fact is, the gestation period for this new line of ours was nowhere near that of a real baby, but like giving birth to anything new - we have put great thought, effort, and hopes into our planning. We hope that the Clooney Collection will make people smile, and that it will also make people think. We're not just trying to be cheeky with this slogan, after all.

If it can get people talking...and heck, even get Mr. Clooney himself even slightly considering the thought, then our mission is accomplished. So for the time being our focus is on getting as many people to find out about our line as possible!

It's quite fitting that Elaine, our hometown gossip girl, broke our Clooney Collection first to the masses. She's gotten quite a following and is always in the know about the low-down in Hollywood.

Elaine has always been very supportive of other people just trying to make it in their chosen area - one of the things we find so great about her.

We were really pleased at how eager she was to wear the first tee and support us in our venture. Media support and coverage is the most important thing to put effort into when starting a new else does a company with a small to nil advertising budget get the word out about their goodies?

A big thanks to Lainey for her support!

Here we go!

A person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture.
[French, from Old French, from entreprendre, to undertake. See enterprise.]
A risk-taker who has the skills and initiative to establish a business.

Whew, I'll say!

Well, we're just a few days away from launching a brand, and might I say spanking, new venture!

Ang and I are both such true entrepreneurs that this is what life is all about for us...we came up with an idea, based on a posting in my private blog about George Clooney, we tossed around various iterations of it, had a few sleepless nights, a few early mornings, a few Vancouver-Germany phone calls, and here we are, ready to go with it!

That's just the way we like to do business.

Angela and I have both had our own businesses for some time now. For me, it's really been since I had a lemonade stand as a kid...and I lived on a farm, where it was an important event if someone actually drove down the road so didn't do too well. We've also had various successes and failures, but like all entrepreneurs (as evidenced by American Inventor), we just keep picking ourselves up, dusting ourselves off, and going at it again.

We hope that folks will like what we're doing with this new partnership and venture. Today it's t-shirts, tomorrow the world!

We're starting off with the Clooney Collection for a reason...or for two, really.

1. He's amazing. I mean he's just a total package guy. I am sure I don't have to explain myself any further but I will anyway. He's intelligent, involved, articulate, and oh yeah...he's not too hard on the eyes.

2. There's a reason we're launching "keep the george, lose the bush" as one of our first offerings. We're just plain freaked out about that other George. You know the one...the guy in charge of arguably the world's most powerful army? We may be Canadian, and we might live in Canada and Europe, but there's no doubt that what happens in the US affects our entire planet. Scary that such a person should have such power. It's just time to get someone else in there and see if we can't clean up some of the messes. (That's probably the only real political commentary we'll be making on the subject...)

Please come on back and read about what we're doing from time to time!

Miss Tamara
